Rules of the Harvest

Master the art of the Garden Box. A remix of Mancala.

Setup

The Pouch

Each player starts with a small pouch of 24 seeds. The youngest gardener goes first.

First Turn

Planting the First Crop

On the first turn, both players must start with four seeds to sow. After this, you may choose how many to pick up from your pouch, as long as it fits in your hand.

The Pits

Empty the Pouch

You must completely empty your pouch before you are allowed to pick seeds back up from the pits.

Clumsy Hands

Spilled Seeds

If a seed falls out of your hand, it must be placed back into the last pit it was originally in.

Bonus

Extended Growth

If your last seed lands in an opponent's pit that already contains seeds, your turn extends!

Ending

The Final Harvest

When one side has three or more seeds in every pit, the round ends immediately.

Seed Value & Shape Guide

Identify your harvest by color or shape. Points are calculated as follows:

Black (Almond) 5 points
Red (Bean) 4 points
Yellow (Pyramid) 3 points
Green (Cube) 2 points
Blue (Diamond) 1 point
White (Ball) 0 points

The Winner

Calculate your total points using the guide above. The player with the highest point total (not just seed count) is the Master Gardener!
